In may Sony Xperia Z2 is coming to North America

The Sony Xperia Z2 is coming to North America in May. That news comes directly from Sony, as the Japanese carrier announced that its flagship phone will be an exclusive in Canada for Bell. Waterproof and dustproof, the device has all of the specs that you would expect from a top-shelf model. That includes a 5.2 inch 1020 x 1920 resolution Triluminos display, a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. Back and front facing cameras weigh in at 20.7MP and 2.2MP respectively. A 3200mAh battery keeps the lights on and Android 4.4 is pre-installed. Those who purchase the phone from Bell will have access to six blockbuster movies from Sony Pictures, including Captain Phillips, through the Video Unlimited service. Buyers will receive a 30-day free trial of the Music Unlimited service, and eight PlayStation Mobile games.

While pricing was not disclosed, Bell is currently taking pre-registrations for the device. That means if you leave your email address with the Canadian carrier, you will be alerted when Bell is taking pre-orders on the handset. Sony's press release mentiones a May launch for the handset on Bell. The phone will be available in black, white and purple.

As for a U.S. launch of the Sony Xperia Z2, initially it was believed that the phone would find its way to T-Mobile just as the Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia Z1S did. But toward the end of last month, we passed along a rumor that the Sony Xperia Z2 will end up being a Verizon exclusive, with a launch in the second quarter of the year. The whole situation is up in the air, and while Verizon customers were electrified by the report, nothing is official yet.
